The world needs technology to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. This is the conviction of Canadian consulting firm CGI, which has developed a technological innovation to support the ecological transition of polluting companies.
The 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), which opens in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on 1 November 2022, will also be a meeting place for innovations. The Canadian technology company CGI will present its latest advances in the “Metaverse”. This is a future version of the Internet in which virtual spaces are accessible via artificial intelligence in video conferencing.
SEEDS programme
From its laboratory in Quebec, Canada, CGI has, for example, implemented the Science of Environmental Data Exploration for Sustainable Development (SEEDS) programme, which will facilitate the ecological transition of many organisations worldwide. The solution features techniques for natural capital accounting, chemical and waste reduction, and supply chain sustainability.
“Our commitment to sustainability is rooted in our core values. We are excited to participate in COP27 to share responsible practices and technologies that will harness the power of data to advance climate goals and achieve long-term business value,” said George Schindler, CGI’s CEO.
The multinational employs 88,500 people in several countries including Australia, the Netherlands and Morocco. In this North African country, CGI wants to contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint in sectors such as energy, retail and aeronautics, particularly in the cities of Casablanca, Rabat and Fez, where industrial activities impact biodiversity.
