Huawei has launched a new Innovation Center in Lagos during the inaugural Huawei Day Nigeria 2025 celebrating 25 years of its operations in the country.

The Innovation Center serves as a collaborative space where public and private sector stakeholders—including technology professionals, enterprise partners, government agencies, and educational institutions can come together to explore and develop cutting-edge digital solutions. Its purpose is to accelerate co-creation and innovation in vital sectors such as education, energy, financial services, public administration, and oil & gas. This initiative further highlights Huawei’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital development and fostering local tech ecosystems.

AI era

Huawei Nigeria CEO Chris Lu described the center as the beginning of an AI-driven era underpinned by local cloud and green energy. Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, lauded the initiative as key to transforming Nigeria from a technology consumer to creator.

According to Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, the ICT sector contributed 13.12% to GDP in Q1 2024, underscoring its importance in economic growth. The Innovation Center is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and reinforce Huawei’s role in fostering an intelligent, inclusive future for the nation.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, applauded the initiative, describing the center as a strategic step towards building indigenous capacity in technology development. According to the Minister, the facility will not only enable knowledge sharing but also provide a foundation for homegrown solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges. “This center will play a vital role in shifting Nigeria from being a passive consumer of digital technologies to becoming an active creator and exporter of innovation,” Dr. Tijani said.

With initiatives like the Lagos Innovation Center, Huawei reinforces its vision of creating a smart, inclusive, and connected future—one where innovation is co-developed with local communities to ensure relevance, resilience, and long-term impact.
