The British International Freight Association (BIFA) and the Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development and modernization of Ethiopia’s freight and logistics industry.

This partnership is focused on enhancing EFFSAA’s institutional capabilities, offering expert guidance on both technical and business matters, and designing tailored training programs for logistics professionals in Ethiopia.

Scope of MoU

The agreement also aims to encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration between the two associations and their respective members. During a recent visit to Ethiopia, senior officials from BIFA engaged with various public and private stakeholders, culminating in a formal signing ceremony attended by government representatives, development agencies, and industry leaders. These stakeholders acknowledged the potential impact of the MoU in addressing logistical challenges and bringing Ethiopia’s logistics sector closer to global standards.

EFFSAA President Dawit Woubishet emphasized that the association’s mission is to foster a competitive logistics industry that can contribute to national economic growth by advancing skills, innovation, and international partnerships. He noted that the collaboration with BIFA provides access to the expertise of a globally recognized freight association that plays a key role in FIATA, the international umbrella organization for freight forwarders.

BIFA Director General Steve Parker expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it reflects BIFA’s recognized leadership in logistics and freight forwarding. He added that the collaboration is expected to benefit Ethiopian professionals and could create new business opportunities for members of both organizations.
