New initiative combines logistics, digital tools, and financing to unlock SME growth across the continent

Africa Global Logistics (AGL) has launched WeGoAfrica, a new initiative aimed at helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) overcome persistent supply-chain challenges that continue to hinder business growth across Africa.

Rolled out by the hinterland transport division of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the initiative is designed to improve SME access to efficient logistics solutions while introducing “smart financing” options that support market entry and expansion.

The launch comes at a critical time for Africa’s entrepreneurial sector. SMEs account for approximately 90% of businesses in certain regions, according to AAE Africa, making them a vital driver of employment, innovation, and economic development.

According to the economic analysis platform Afripreneurs, African entrepreneurs operate businesses that “are pivotal in generating employment, fostering innovation, and propelling economic growth.” Despite their importance, many SMEs remain constrained by systemic obstacles that limit their ability to scale.

Key challenges include restricted access to logistics networks, limited digital capabilities, high operating costs, and constrained financing, all of which reduce competitiveness and slow growth, Stat Media Group reports.

WeGoAfrica has been structured around six core pillars designed to address these barriers holistically:

  • One Stop Shop: A single digital platform offering online quotations, shipment consolidation, route optimisation, and real-time cargo tracking.
  • Trust Every Mile: Reliable first- and last-mile delivery solutions, including access to remote areas through multimodal transport.
  • Warehousing Without Barriers: Flexible, shared storage solutions that adapt to fluctuating capacity requirements.
  • DocuBridge: Streamlined documentation and administrative processes to reduce complexity and delays.
  • My LogCoach: Direct access to experienced logistics professionals for guidance and support.
  • CashBoost: Secure payments and access to financing solutions through a partnership with SafeTrade.

By integrating logistics infrastructure, digital innovation, and financial support, WeGoAfrica aims to strengthen supply-chain resilience and enable African SMEs to scale more effectively, positioning them for sustainable participation in regional and global markets.
