Aero Contractors (N2, Lagos) is set to complete the expansion of its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Lagos within the next three months. The upgraded facility aims to position the company as a leading maintenance hub for Western and Central Africa.

CEO and Managing Director Ado Sanusi stated that the expansion will enhance the airline’s ability to handle both older and next-generation aircraft. The improvements include acquiring new tools and upgrading the hangar to provide a broader range of maintenance services.

Growth strategy

The MRO division, Aero MRO, has become a key part of Aero Contractors’ growth strategy. It currently offers C-checks for Boeing 737 Classics and has expanded its capacity to conduct D-checks on both B737 Classics and De Havilland Dash 8 aircraft. The company has also secured line maintenance contracts for Boeing 737 MAX and B787 operators. Additionally, Aero Contractors is improving its capabilities to maintain Bombardier Aerospace aircraft, including handling engine overhauls, auxiliary power unit (APU) maintenance, landing gear repairs, and component servicing.

Aero Contractors recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to enhance aviation safety and training. The agreement will allow NSIB’s safety officers and technical staff to receive on-the-job training at Aero’s facilities, including its maintenance workshops and simulators. In return, Aero’s technical staff will benefit from NSIB-led training in accident investigation and related safety disciplines. This collaboration is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation safety standards and improve overall industry expertise.

Under the leadership of Ado Sanusi, appointed in 2017, Aero Contractors has significantly improved its maintenance capabilities and operational efficiency without relying on external funding. The ongoing MRO expansion reflects the airline’s commitment to becoming a premier maintenance provider in the region while supporting the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
