Cosmos Multimodal Transport Operators (MTO) Plc has entered into a strategic land lease agreement with the Gada Special Economic Zone Development Corporation (GSEZ) to establish a logistics hub within the facility. This move strengthens Ethiopia’s logistics sector by improving import-export operations and enhancing supply chain infrastructure.
The agreement reflects Cosmos’s broader expansion strategy, building on its existing 15-hectare terminal in Mojo, a key logistics center near Addis Ababa. The new facility in GSEZ will include warehouses, cold storage, and other essential infrastructure to support increased trade activities. This development aligns with Ethiopia’s goal of creating a more competitive and efficient logistics ecosystem.
Growing logistics market
Cosmos MTO, a joint venture between Gada Transport and Logistics SC and Tradepath International Plc, is one of the few licensed non-vessel operators in Ethiopia, challenging the dominance of state-owned Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics. The agreement was signed at GSEZ’s headquarters in Adama, located about 85 kilometers from Addis Ababa. Dawit Woubeshet, CEO of Cosmos, expressed confidence that the new facility will strengthen the company’s position in Ethiopia’s growing logistics market. Motuma Temesgen, Director General of GSEZ, highlighted that the project would enhance economic development by reducing logistical inefficiencies and improving trade flow.
“We are dedicated to fostering a conducive environment for operators and industrialists to thrive, ultimately benefiting the country’s economy,” said Motuma Temesgen, Director General of GSEZ.
“The newly acquired land will facilitate import-export activities within the economic zone and include supply chain facilities, while the existing terminal in Mojo will be restructured to enhance multimodal services,” said Getu Hunduma, CEO of Gada Transport and Logistics.
