DHL Group has acquired full ownership of CRYOPDP, a global specialist in temperature-sensitive logistics, from Cryoport. This move marks a strategic expansion of DHL’s capabilities in the life sciences and healthcare sector.

CRYOPDP is renowned for its high-end courier services, particularly in clinical trials, biotechnology, and cell and gene therapy logistics. Operating in 15 countries and managing over 600,000 shipments annually, CRYOPDP supports customers and patients in more than 135 countries around the world.

2030 Strategy

Through this acquisition, DHL Supply Chain aims to enhance its pharmaceutical logistics network by combining CRYOPDP’s specialized courier services with the global air freight strengths of DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding. This integration is expected to significantly strengthen DHL’s existing life sciences business, which generated over €5 billion in revenue in 2024. The acquisition aligns with DHL Group’s Strategy 2030, focusing on expanding temperature-controlled logistics and end-to-end supply chain solutions for the healthcare industry.

In addition to the acquisition, DHL has entered a strategic partnership with Cryoport. This collaboration is set to combine DHL’s expansive logistics network with Cryoport’s deep expertise in tailored solutions for the life sciences market. The partnership also deepens DHL’s ties with Cryoport’s various business units, enabling broader cooperation across the healthcare supply chain.

For Cryoport, the partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen its operations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC). By partnering with DHL, Cryoport aims to focus more closely on its core business in these regions and provide highly specialized services to meet increasing demand in the healthcare logistics space.

Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, emphasized that the acquisition is a critical step toward expanding DHL’s Pharma Specialized Network, enabling better service in both advanced therapies and traditional pharmaceutical sectors. Jerrell Shelton, CEO of Cryoport, expressed enthusiasm about the extended partnership, highlighting the mutual benefits and global growth opportunities it presents. The transaction is currently pending regulatory approval.
