DP World has launched its first auto export shipment from Egypt, marking a major milestone in Egypt’s maritime and automotive industries.
The export shipment of passenger vehicles is from Ain Sokhna Port. The vessel ULUSOY 5 is set sail for Jebel Ali, Dubai, carrying 498 locally assembled Nissan Sunny cars. This marks a significant advancement in Egypt’s automotive sector, with DP World planning to export up to 10,000 vehicles within the year.
Global trade
Avnash Iyer, COO & Acting Country Head of DP World Egypt, emphasized the importance of this shipment, highlighting how the company’s logistics expertise is helping integrate Egypt into global trade networks. Over the past two decades, DP World has invested more than $1.3 billion to modernize Ain Sokhna Port, equipping it with advanced logistics solutions such as container handling, bulk cargo services, and third-party logistics (3PL) support.
This initiative strengthens Ain Sokhna Port’s position as a key automotive export hub, contributing to Egypt’s broader goals of enhancing its role in regional and international trade. DP World is a multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It specialises in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services and free trade zones. Formed in 2005 by the merger of Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Ports International, DP World handles 70 million containers that are brought in by around 70,000 vessels annually. This equates to roughly 10% of global container traffic accounted for by their 82 marine and inland terminals present in over 40 countries. Until 2016, DP World was primarily a global port operator, but since then, it has acquired other companies up and down the value chain.
