Egypt’s government has taken a new step toward bolstering its food security network with progress on a major warehouse project in Luxor. Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk inspected the development of the facility, which forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at safeguarding reserves of key food staples and enhancing commodity management.

According to a statement from the ministry, the minister held a meeting with executives of Hassan Allam Holding, the company responsible for executing the project, to review ongoing works. Discussions focused on issues such as securing construction permits, connecting essential utilities, and ensuring that progress remains in line with the set schedule.

Boost in supply chain

Farouk emphasized that the Luxor warehouse will play a critical role in improving supply chains, reducing losses caused by storage inefficiencies, preserving the quality of food items, and ensuring fair and timely distribution to citizens. The facility will not only serve Luxor but also provide support to neighboring governorates across Upper Egypt, where logistical challenges have historically hindered efficient commodity delivery.

Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, noted that the warehouse is being developed in accordance with international best practices in storage and inventory management. He highlighted that the project is intended to serve as a benchmark for similar warehouses the government plans to establish nationwide, in a bid to modernize Egypt’s strategic stockpile system.

The initiative reflects Egypt’s wider efforts to create a resilient food supply framework capable of withstanding global disruptions, while reinforcing its commitment to ensuring equitable access to essential goods for communities across the country.
