Ethio Telecom has announced the launch of a newly established South South-East Regional Office in Bale Robe, a step aimed at improving telecommunications services, expanding digital access, and promoting inclusive economic growth across the region.
This initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to grow its digital infrastructure footprint in response to increasing demand for reliable communication and innovative digital services. Ethio Telecom envisions becoming a leader in the telecom and digital solutions space while actively contributing to Ethiopia’s national digital transformation agenda.
Strategy
In addition to infrastructure development, Ethio Telecom carried out a strategic restructuring based on regional studies to bring services closer to customers. The restructuring is designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer service, and extend access to emerging digital technologies.
Previously, the South East Region, managed from Adama, covered a large area from Bishoftu to East Bale. With over 128 service centers and extensive mobile and telecom infrastructure, the region played a vital role in service delivery. Recent network modernization and the rollout of advanced 4G LTE services created the conditions needed to establish a new regional branch.
The newly launched South South-East Region includes Bale Zone, East Bale Zone, and part of West Arsi Zone, encompassing 29 districts, 38 towns, and 471 rural kebeles. It is supported by newly deployed telecom infrastructure, mobile and fixed-line sites, and service centers built with accessibility and user experience in mind. A dedicated workforce has also been assigned to ensure efficient operations.
This region is economically significant, with fertile agricultural land, livestock resources, flower farms, industrial zones, and growing towns. It also features a range of tourism destinations, making it a prime area for digital service integration. Ethio Telecom believes that investing in this region will stimulate local economies and contribute to the broader digital economy of Ethiopia.
By launching this regional office, Ethio Telecom aims to deliver faster services, make administrative processes more efficient, and deepen engagement with local communities. The company is committed to collaborating with local authorities, businesses, and startups to introduce impactful digital products and telebirr solutions that align with the needs of the population. This development marks a significant step in supporting Ethiopia’s digital future and ensuring that the benefits of modern telecom services are accessible to all.
