The government of Ethiopia has announced plans to transform the country’s logistics sector. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics revealed the report and said a series of strategic actions will be roled out for implementation of the plan.

These reforms are part of a broader effort to position Ethiopia as a competitive hub in both regional and global trade landscapes. State Minister Denge Boru emphasized that the government is placing high priority on overhauling the logistics industry in alignment with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

National logistics development strategy

Over the past six years, Ethiopia has been implementing a national logistics development strategy designed to improve efficiency and service delivery within the sector. According to the State Minister, these efforts have already begun to yield encouraging results.

“A robust, modern logistics framework is essential for enhancing our competitiveness on the global stage,” he noted. The government, he added, is working to align the country’s infrastructure with global standards to ensure it can meet the demands of international trade.

Particular emphasis is being placed on logistics systems that support the movement of high-value goods across borders, especially within the context of AfCFTA. The reforms also aim to introduce innovative logistics solutions that are in line with both regional and global trade agreements. Ultimately, the ongoing improvements are expected to not only elevate Ethiopia’s logistics capabilities but also strengthen its role in driving economic integration across Africa.
