The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) has officially completed its Port Management Information System (PMIS) implementation, marking a significant step in its digital transformation journey. A formal closing ceremony was held on July 16, bringing together key stakeholders, including GPA Board Chairman Kebba Tamsir Njie, Managing Director Ousman M. Jobarteh, Prodevelop Deputy COO Christophe Joubert, and Deputy Managing Director of Alport Banjul, Salih Levant.
The PMIS, developed by Spanish firm Prodevelop in collaboration with Lasting Solutions and GPA’s IT team, went live on April 3, 2025, following a six-month phased rollout. The system, Posidonia, now supports a broad range of port operations from berth scheduling and pilotage to invoicing and electronic document handling offering real-time data, automated workflows, and improved inter-stakeholder coordination.
International standards
Managing Director Jobarteh praised the project as a transformative milestone for the Port of Banjul, aligning its operations with international standards and bolstering its role in global trade. He emphasized the importance of ongoing training, stating, “Technology is only as effective as its users.”
Christophe Joubert highlighted the system’s capabilities, including integration readiness for ERP, PCS, and the upcoming Vessel Traffic Service (VTS). Director of IT, Ousman Jammeh, detailed the five-phase implementation, which began in September 2024 and included diagnostics, software deployment via AWS, module testing, and user training.
Captain Kulay Manneh, Director of Harbours, noted that PMIS will improve port call efficiency, safety compliance, and data-driven decision-making. He called on stakeholders to embrace the new system fully as GPA advances toward future digital upgrades. With PMIS now operational, GPA is better positioned for efficiency, transparency, and enhanced service delivery in port management.
