The government of Ghana officially launched maiden Transport and Logistics Fair 2025. The country’s Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe performed the launch ceremony, describing it as a groundbreaking national platform to reposition the sector as the backbone of the country’s socio-economic growth.

Mr. Nikpe said the Fair was a bold national statement and a deliberate convergence of innovation, investment, and dialogue to tackle inefficiencies that have long constrained Ghana’s development.

“Transportation connects our farms to markets, our ports to the world, and our people to opportunities. Yet inefficiencies in the movement of goods and people, fragmented systems, and limited private sector involvement have slowed progress,” he said.

Reforms

He highlighted government reforms under President John Dramani Mahama, which focus on modernising rail, maritime, and aviation infrastructure, reducing logistics costs, and digitalising ports and customs to enhance transparency. Other priorities include expanding multimodal transport such as inland water and regional rail corridors and strengthening regulations to ensure safety and professionalism.

The Minister said these priorities align with government’s broader “resetting agenda” for the transport sector. The Fair, themed “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,” is scheduled for October 22–24 at the Accra Trade Fair Centre. He stressed it will go beyond exhibition, serving as a platform for collaboration among policymakers, private players, academia, development partners, and the public.

Mr. Nikpe also emphasized Ghana’s strategic role in becoming a West African transport hub under AfCFTA and urged strong media support. Private sector partners, including Dr. Chief Nat Nsorko and Mrs. Nana-Hemaa Adjoa Awindor of Digital Eye Ltd, said the Fair will foster innovation, attract investors, and give the public especially young people an opportunity to experience transport technologies first-hand.
