Industrial Development Group (IDG), a prominent developer and operator of industrial zones in Egypt, has introduced an ambitious growth strategy aimed at enhancing Egypt’s industrial capacity and driving economic development.
The plan includes establishing new industrial zones in key locations such as the New Administrative Capital and New October City, with additional sites expected to be announced. IDG also intends to expand its existing projects in 6th of October City, New Alamein, and East Port Said, covering a total area of 24.4 million square meters. This strategic expansion is designed to strengthen Egypt’s position as a competitive manufacturing and industrial hub in Africa and the Middle East.
Growth strategy
As part of its growth strategy, IDG is executing several high-impact projects that are set to transform Egypt’s industrial sector. These include the NERIC railcar manufacturing initiative, which aims to bolster the country’s transport infrastructure, and a partnership with Poland’s FEERUM to manufacture silos and improve food security. Additionally, IDG is developing strategic storage facilities in Suez to enhance supply chain efficiency and advanced logistics zones to support streamlined trade and distribution networks. These projects reflect IDG’s commitment to building a modern, resilient industrial ecosystem that meets global standards.
To support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), IDG is introducing a range of financial and consulting services aimed at helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. These solutions will provide SMEs with the resources needed to increase production, improve market competitiveness, and scale their operations effectively. By empowering SMEs, IDG seeks to create a more inclusive and dynamic industrial sector that drives long-term economic growth.
Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment (GAFI), highlighted the government’s focus on transforming Egypt into a global industrial hub. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure reforms and the development of new service and logistics projects. GAFI plans to launch four new free zones in New Alamein, Borg El Arab, 10th of Ramadan, and 6th of October City, which will create new opportunities for local and foreign investors. The government is also working to increase Egypt’s share of global trade passing through the Suez Canal to 20%, supported by new incentives to strengthen key productive sectors and enhance the country’s competitive edge.
Karim Sami Saad, Chairperson of IDG, reinforced the company’s long-term commitment to developing world-class industrial communities with modern infrastructure and support services. Since its founding 17 years ago, IDG has been at the forefront of Egypt’s industrial transformation. He affirmed that IDG’s expansion into new industrial zones and its focus on enhancing supply chains will position Egypt as a major player in global markets while fostering sustainable industrial growth.
Since the launch of Egypt’s first integrated industrial zone, e2 October, in 2008, IDG has played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s industrial infrastructure. The company expanded its reach in 2017 with the development of the East Port Said Industrial Zone, which serves as a gateway for trade with Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. More recently, IDG became the first industrial developer to establish an industrial zone in New Alamein City with the Alamein e2 project.
