Kenya is set to begin construction works on the 87-kilometre Kamandura–Mai Mahiu–Narok Road. The country’s Head of State William Ruto announced that works will commence in October 2025.
The project is designed to improve connectivity from Limuru in Kiambu County to Nairobi, ease traffic flow, and support economic growth along the busy transport corridor. Speaking during a Sunday service at PCEA Joshua Matenjwa Memorial Church in Limuru, the President explained that the road will run from Limuru to Naivasha, terminate at Nakuru, and eventually be extended to Malaba.

The planned upgrade will see the Kamandura–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha section converted into a dual carriageway, while the stretch from Naivasha to Nakuru will be expanded into a six-lane carriageway to cater to increasing traffic volumes. Although the specific cost of the project has not been disclosed, the works are expected to be completed before 2027.
This development is part of the wider 140-kilometre Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit dual carriageway initiative, which is currently in the tendering and funding phase. The corridor is one of the busiest in the country, linking Nairobi to the Rift Valley and western Kenya. As part of the broader infrastructure plan, the government is also preparing to construct interchanges at Kangemi, Gitaru, and Kamandura to further reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
