Lufthansa Cargo has joined Silicon Saxony, Europe’s largest high-tech industry network, in a strategic move to strengthen its position in technology-focused airfreight services. The collaboration aims to deepen the airline’s engagement with key players in the microelectronics, semiconductor, and IT sectors industries heavily reliant on time-critical and precision-driven logistics.

Headquartered in Dresden, Germany, Silicon Saxony brings together over 600 entities, including multinational corporations, start-ups, and research institutes. The region is one of Europe’s most important semiconductor hubs, making it a strategic location for Lufthansa Cargo’s growth ambitions in the high-tech sector.

Adapting to unique logistics requirements

Carolin Gerstenmaier, Head of Industry Development at Lufthansa Cargo, emphasized the importance of understanding and adapting to the unique logistics requirements of the semiconductor industry: “The semiconductor industry is characterized by highly sensitive, time-critical supply chains. Our customers expect reliable, flexible logistics solutions and this is precisely where we want to continuously develop through active exchange.”

Lufthansa Cargo plans to actively participate in Silicon Saxony’s working groups, specialist forums, and industry events to co-develop airfreight solutions tailored for high-value, delicate electronics. The airline aims to leverage its international logistics expertise to enhance supply chain resilience and support global tech innovation.

Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of Silicon Saxony, welcomed the partnership, saying: “Reliable and efficient logistics are a decisive competitive factor for the globally interconnected semiconductor industry. The exchange with Lufthansa Cargo opens up new perspectives on intelligent supply chains and resilient infrastructures.”

The move also supports Lufthansa Cargo’s broader goal of regaining its position among the world’s top three airfreight carriers in terms of volume. By aligning with Europe’s semiconductor powerhouse, the airline is positioning itself at the heart of future innovation in high-tech logistics.
