Lufthansa Cargo has inaugurated a new twice-weekly cargo route between Frankfurt and Katowice, utilizing its Airbus A321 freighter aircraft.
The first flight under this new service landed at Katowice Airport at 4:00 PM and returned to Frankfurt after approximately 90 minutes. This development represents a significant enhancement of Lufthansa Cargo’s services in Poland, aimed at strengthening its air freight capabilities in the region.
Boosting logistics network
The introduction of this regular connection builds upon Lufthansa Cargo’s ongoing investments in the Polish market. In early 2021, the airline established a Road Feeder Service (RFS) consolidation center at the Katowice Airport cargo terminal, providing ground transport links to support freight movement. The addition of direct air cargo flights further integrates Poland into Lufthansa’s wider logistics network.
Wojciech Ryglewicz, Lufthansa Cargo’s Director of Sales & Handling for Central and Eastern Europe, emphasized that the new route addresses increasing demand from the industrial sector in Poland and the surrounding region. He highlighted that dependable and timely air transport plays a crucial role in global supply chains, supporting the competitiveness and operational efficiency of companies.
Artur Tomasik, President of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, praised the decision to launch regular cargo flights from Katowice, noting that the airport is now the first in Poland to handle scheduled Lufthansa Cargo operations. He underscored the strategic importance of this move, stating it affirms Katowice Airport’s rising status as a major player in Central European air freight logistics.
