Lufthansa Cargo is set to enhance its operations in Central and Eastern Europe by introducing regular freighter flights between Frankfurt Airport and Katowice Airport in Poland, commencing on April 3, 2025.

These flights will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Saturdays, utilizing Airbus A321 freighters. The schedule includes arrivals in Katowice at 4:00 PM and departures from Frankfurt at 5:30 PM. Wojciech Ryglewicz, Director of Sales and Handling for Central and Eastern Europe at Lufthansa Cargo, emphasized the significance of this development, stating that it represents an important step in expanding Lufthansa Cargo’s routes in the region.

He highlighted Katowice Airport’s dynamic growth and its increasing role in regional air logistics, expressing confidence that the new route will enhance cargo handling and transportation efficiency in this part of Europe.

This initiative marks Lufthansa Cargo’s first dedicated freighter service from a Polish airport. Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, which operates Katowice Airport, expressed gratitude to Lufthansa Cargo’s management for their trust. He noted that this decision underscores the market potential and Katowice Airport’s capabilities in cargo operations. Tomasik also revealed plans for expanding the cargo area, including the addition of a second cargo terminal with up to 10,000 square meters of built-up area, aiming to position the airport as a key hub for airfreight, particularly in e-commerce, within the region.

Lufthansa Cargo AG is a German cargo airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa. It operates worldwide air freight and logistics services. Lufthansa Cargo has maintained a presence at Katowice Airport since 2021, when it launched a Road Feeder Service (RFS) freight consolidation facility within the airport’s cargo terminal. This strategic move aligns with Lufthansa Cargo’s broader efforts to strengthen its network and meet the growing demand for air cargo services in Central and Eastern Europe.
