Lufthansa has announced plans to manage some of its ground services at Munich Airport by acquiring full ownership of Swissport Losch. This decision is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reliability, and overall service quality for its passengers.
The airline will purchase Swissport Losch from its current owners, Swissport Cargo Services Deutschland and Losch Airport Service München. Even after the acquisition, these shareholders will continue to contribute their expertise to support Lufthansa’s transition to self-handling operations.
Long-standing partnership
Swissport International’s CEO, Warwick Brady, expressed support for Lufthansa’s move, emphasizing the long-standing partnership between both companies. However, the acquisition is still subject to regulatory approvals, including licensing and antitrust clearance.
“We are proud to support Lufthansa in the transition to their self-handling setup on the basis of our long-term partnership with the Lufthansa Group at Munich Airport.”
Lufthansa has also assured that Swissport Losch’s employees will retain their jobs, with opportunities for long-term career growth. Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter highlighted the importance of job security at Munich Airport and enhancing the passenger experience.
In a separate development, Lufthansa recently announced that it will offer free unlimited messaging on all long-haul flights, allowing passengers to send and receive messages, including photos, using common messaging apps.
