The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a warehouse in Kaduna containing expired food and cosmetic products worth approximately N75 million. This action follows a tip-off from a concerned citizen and subsequent surveillance.

Shaba Muhammed, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, disclosed the operation in a statement on Tuesday in Kaduna. Key findings include large quantities of expired biscuits, dairy milk, vegetable oil, soft drinks, detergents, and other items. Workers were also caught repackaging expired biscuits into sacks, presumably for resale.

Investigation

“Following a detailed surveillance operation, NAFDAC’s investigation team discovered a large quantity of expired items. At the time of the operation, workers were found removing the expired biscuits from their original packaging into sacks,” Muhammed added.

The warehouse, Amanat.com, is located at PP2A Bayajidda Street, near Kano Road and New Ogbomosho Road, in Kaduna State. The Managing Director of the warehouse has been arrested for questioning. Muhammed emphasized that regulatory sanctions would be strictly applied to deter similar illegal activities.

Muhammed urged Nigerians to be cautious when purchasing regulated products, report suspicious items to the nearest NAFDAC office and notify the agency of fraudulent activities to aid enforcement efforts. This operation underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the safety of food and drug products in Nigeria.
