Nigeria has officially commissioned the newly completed 3.64-kilometer Arterial Road N16 in Abuja. The country’s President Bola Tinubu unveiled the infrastructure and described it as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s drive toward infrastructure renewal and economic transformation.

Constructed by Chinese firm CGC Nigeria Limited, the road links various parts of the capital through the Maitama District and includes vital interchanges and feeder roads. It was among the landmark projects showcased by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to commemorate Tinubu’s second year in office.

“What was once a missing link is now a modern, functional, and durable infrastructure—an artery fully realized,” the president remarked during the ceremony. He emphasized that the road aligns with the aspirations of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at delivering critical infrastructure to support national development.

Advantages

According to Tinubu, the new road will reduce traffic congestion in central Abuja and improve access to growing districts such as Katampe, Jahi, and Bwari. He noted that the project is expected to catalyze residential and commercial expansion and contribute to the broader integration of the city.

The president also commended the smooth relocation and compensation process for affected residents and called on Nigerians to protect and maintain the infrastructure for shared prosperity and social cohesion.

Awarded by the Federal Executive Council in September 2024, the contract saw CGC Nigeria commence construction in October of the same year. The project was delivered in just eight months—four months ahead of schedule. Speaking during the event, CGC Nigeria’s Managing Director, Zhong Xiang, credited the achievement to the strong partnership and mutual trust between Nigeria and China.

“During the project, we created over 1,300 direct and indirect jobs, which helped boost local economic activities,” he said, adding that the successful execution of the road reflects CGC’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure ambitions.
