Ocean Network Express (ONE) Europe has renewed its ISO 14001:2015 environmental management certification, now broadening the scope to include a greater range of inland logistics functions. While the company had previously achieved certification for its marine operations, the updated accreditation now extends to inland transport procurement, container depot operations, and the maintenance and repair of containers throughout both Europe and Africa.
This development forms part of ONE’s broader environmental and sustainability strategy. In line with its long-term goals, the company has also launched a Ship Recycling Policy and become a member of the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI). These steps reflect ONE’s commitment to responsible ship decommissioning, ensuring end-of-life vessels are dismantled only at certified, regulation-compliant recycling facilities.
Environmental approach
Frida Thorborg, who leads the Green Strategy Department at ONE Europe, noted that ISO 14001 certification is more than a formal recognition it represents a continuous effort toward environmental accountability. She highlighted the collaboration with ONE’s Maintenance & Repair team to evaluate and improve key depot suppliers’ performance, focusing on areas such as energy use, waste reduction, and emissions tracking.
ONE’s environmental approach includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions across scopes 1, 2, and 3, promoting alternative fuel options, expanding intermodal transport corridors, and enhancing transparency in environmental data reporting. These efforts are integrated into daily operations, supplier evaluation, and performance monitoring.
To further align its logistics services with its environmental objectives, ONE recently introduced the Europe Environment Surcharge (EES), helping customers to lower their own supply chain emissions. Through these initiatives, ONE continues to advance its ESG ambitions, embedding sustainability deeply within its logistics and operational framework.
