Pacific International Lines (PIL) has marked a major milestone with the inaugural visit of its latest “O”-Class vessel, Kota Oasis, to the Port of Tema in Ghana. The 8,200 TEU ship, powered by LNG dual-fuel technology, is the first of its kind in PIL’s fleet and operates on the South West Africa Service (SWS) route.

Green shipping innovation

To mark the event, PIL’s Ghana office hosted an onboard ceremony attended by more than 40 guests, including clients and representatives from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS). Speaking at the gathering, Curtiss Dakpogan, Chief Operating Officer of MPS, commended PIL’s dedication to Ghana and its forward-looking investments in cleaner shipping practices.

Built with a strong focus on environmental responsibility, the Kota Oasis can run on both LNG and bio-methane. It is fitted with Win-GD XDF engines featuring iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) technology, which helps lower methane emissions and improve fuel efficiency. After its Ghana call, the vessel is scheduled to visit Togo, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire before returning to Asia, boosting trade connectivity between West Africa and Asian markets.
