Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has announced the opening of its first office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as part of its strategic expansion in East Africa. This move enhances SGL’s ability to serve landlocked countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo by leveraging the Port of Dar es Salaam, a major regional gateway.
Flexible services
The Port of Dar es Salaam handles over 90% of Tanzania’s cargo traffic and serves as a critical hub for commerce and trade for both Tanzania and neighboring landlocked countries. SGL’s new office aims to build stronger relationships with local businesses, governments, and NGOs, providing efficient customs clearance and reliable last-mile services. The company plans to offer flexible end-to-end solutions, including ocean, air, project, road, warehousing, customs clearance, and transit services to landlocked countries.
Jan Andersson has been appointed as the Managing Director to lead the Tanzanian operations. He emphasizes the importance of meeting the growing demand from customers, noting that since SGL entered Kenya a year ago, it has become evident that many customers also have branches in Tanzania, presenting clear growth opportunities. This expansion reflects SGL’s commitment to strengthening its presence in East Africa and supporting the region’s economic development.
“I believe the Tanzanian market has a growing need for a strong local presence, and this investment positions us better to support our overseas partners. The timing is right for SGL to establish itself here, enabling us to accommodate the significant growth we anticipate in the East African region. Moreover, it ensures that we uphold the high standards we deliver in both origin and destination markets,” said Lars Syberg, CEO EMEA.
