Investment strengthens after-sales service, speeds up fleet turnaround, and prepares for 2026 growth

Leading truck body and trailer manufacturer Serco has significantly expanded its Boksburg operation, reinforcing its commitment to faster turnaround times, improved service delivery and increased production capacity.

The extension to the Boksburg facility includes an additional 1 500m² dedicated to after-sales repairs. This new space enables Serco to increase repair throughput, reduce customer downtime and improve overall service efficiency, a critical advantage for fleet operators operating in a time-sensitive logistics environment.

A key highlight of the upgrade is the introduction of a newly developed speed bay. Designed to handle minor repairs within a single day, the speed bay allows fleet operators to get vehicles back on the road faster, minimising operational disruptions and protecting revenue streams.

Expanding Manufacturing Capacity

In response to growing demand and an expanding product range, Serco has also increased its steel body assembly shop by 600m². The expansion creates additional capacity to produce 20 more vehicle bodies per month, strengthening the company’s ability to meet customer orders while maintaining competitive lead times.

Serco CEO Clinton Holcroft said the upgrades form part of the company’s long-term strategy to support customer growth and uphold industry-leading manufacturing standards.

“These investments strengthen our ability to respond quickly to customer needs,” said Holcroft. “We’ve focused on improving workflow, increasing capacity, and creating a safer, cleaner working environment for our teams − all of which ultimately benefit our customers.”

Confidence Heading into 2026

Holcroft expressed optimism about market conditions going into 2026, pointing to improved economic indicators such as lower interest rates, a stronger rand and elevated gold prices. These factors are expected to stimulate transport and logistics activity, creating further opportunities for growth in the vehicle body manufacturing sector.

Originally focused exclusively on refrigerated truck bodies and trailers, Serco has strategically diversified its product portfolio in recent years. The company now manufactures dry-freight solutions including single-skin van bodies, tautliners, interlinks and tautliner trailers.

The latest facility enhancements ensure Serco is well positioned to meet increased customer demand while continuing to deliver high-quality manufacturing and reliable lead times.

With expanded repair capabilities, increased production output and a forward-looking market outlook, Serco’s Boksburg investment signals confidence in both its customers and South Africa’s logistics sector.
