SLB has inaugurated its Africa Performance Center in Luanda, Angola, establishing a 3,200-square-foot state-of-the-art facility designed to serve as a collaborative hub for industry stakeholders. The center aims to provide access to innovative solutions across digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), the oil and gas sector, and new energy initiatives within Angola and the broader African region.

This initiative underscores SLB’s commitment to fostering collaboration, innovation, and the development of human capital in the industry. By leveraging its extensive global network of interconnected innovation and performance centers, SLB seeks to deliver efficient, scalable solutions that meet operational needs sustainably.

Miguel Baptista, Managing Director for SLB in Angola, Central, and East Africa, emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving these goals. He stated, “With this Performance Center, our aim is to work with customers drawing on our global expertise, diverse technology portfolio, and digital workflows to deliver localized solutions.”

Goal

The center’s focus on AI and digital technologies is expected to enhance customer performance and drive production, aligning with Angola’s ambition to maintain oil production above 1.0 million barrels per day until 2030. This approach reflects a broader trend in the oil and gas industry, where data-driven technologies are increasingly utilized to optimize operations and decision-making processes.

Alice de Fátima Pinto de Ceita e Almeida, Secretary of State for Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, highlighted the center’s potential impact on the country’s digital transformation and sustainable development. She noted that the facility would serve as a catalyst for leveraging science, technology, and innovation to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for Angolan citizens.

The Performance Center also aims to provide a unique platform for capacity building, skills enhancement, and the empowerment of local talent across various digital and technological fields. By cultivating sustainable industry solutions from within Angola, the center seeks to contribute to the nation’s long-term economic and technological development.

Dr. Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, expressed support for the initiative, encouraging investment in the oil and gas industry and affirming that “the time to invest is now.”

This development aligns with Angola’s broader economic strategy, which includes diversifying its economy and investing in technological infrastructure to enhance productivity and sustainability. The establishment of the Africa Performance Center represents a significant step toward achieving these objectives.
