South Sudan has officially joined the Smart Africa Trust Alliance (SATA), becoming the 17th nation to endorse the initiative that promotes secure and reliable digital services across the continent.
The signing ceremony was attended by South Sudan’s Minister of ICT and Postal Services, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, and Smart Africa’s CEO, Lacina Koné. This marks a major milestone in South Sudan’s efforts to modernize its digital infrastructure and align with regional digital transformation goals.
Socio-economic growth
By signing the SATA Declaration, South Sudan demonstrates its commitment to developing a digital environment that is safe, interoperable, and centered on its people. This aligns with the broader mission of Smart Africa, which aims to use information and communication technologies (ICT) as a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable socio-economic growth across Africa.
The inclusion of South Sudan into the SATA framework enhances the alliance’s drive to establish a consistent and collaborative approach to digital trust. With more countries embracing this initiative, there is growing momentum toward harmonizing policies related to data protection, digital identity, and cross-border digital services.
As digital technologies continue to reshape African economies, platforms like SATA are becoming crucial in ensuring secure connectivity and trusted data ecosystems. South Sudan’s participation strengthens regional cooperation and paves the way for a more integrated and digitally empowered Africa.
