Italian logistics company Agencies SRL, in collaboration with its partners in Dubai, has launched a new maritime service connecting Italy directly to Libya.
The service is made possible through the time-charter of the Ro-Ro vessel Mimer from Finnish shipowner Godby Shipping. Operating under the MIDLINE SHIPPING brand, the new line will connect the FHP terminal in Chioggia (Venice) to the Libyan ports of Benghazi and Misurata, offering a significant boost to trade and logistics in the region.
Ro-Ro service
This new Ro-Ro service is set to begin on May 8th and will run on a 15–18 day rotation from Italy. It is particularly notable for being the only direct Ro-Ro link between Europe and Benghazi, with a remarkably short 4-day transit time from Chioggia. This rapid turnaround is expected to greatly enhance cargo flow to eastern Libya, which is currently experiencing substantial development and reconstruction.
In addition to its Libyan destinations, the vessel will make regular port calls in Izmir and Mersin in Turkey, as well as Alexandria in Egypt, further expanding its reach and solidifying a multinational logistics corridor linking Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. This positions the service as a key trade facilitator in the wider Mediterranean region.
The Mimer is well-suited for the operation, with a cargo capacity of approximately 1,030 lane meters, a deadweight of 4,491 tons, and a heavy-duty ramp capable of handling up to 180 tons. These features make it ideal for transporting project cargo, industrial machinery, and rolling units, especially MAFI cargo. According to Loris Trevisan, Agencies SRL’s shipping agent, the service is tailored to meet the needs of Libya’s eastern markets, which are seeing increased demand for construction and industrial supplies.
