Swissport has secured a seven-year ground handling license at Zurich Airport (ZRH) through 2032, reinforcing its position as a key player in air cargo logistics and airport ground services.

Warwick Brady, Swissport’s president and CEO made the announcement and said the license allows Swissport to continue managing air cargo while also providing passenger services (check-in, boarding), baggage handling, aircraft pushback, de-icing, and lounge hospitality.

The renewal of the contract underscores the company’s ability to deliver safe, high-quality and innovative ground handling solutions at Switzerland’s busiest airport and SWISS hub.”

Swissport has operated at ZRH since 1996 and handled over 187,000 flights in 2024. The company employs 2,300 people at the airport and serves most airlines operating there. Swissport is also investing heavily in electric ground support equipment at Zurich Airport to cut emissions. Currently, 44% of its fleet is electric, with plans to surpass 55% by the end of 2025. The company targets 55% electric vehicles globally by 2032 and aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Swissport also recently launched a new air cargo ground handling partnership with Dominican Republic-headquartered SKYhigh Airlines at Miami International Airport in the US, plus expanded its air cargo capabilities at Gatwick Airport in the UK.
