TAAG Angola Airlines has inaugurated a new dedicated cargo route between Luanda, Angola, and Nairobi, Kenya, with operations officially beginning on April 30, 2025.

The service will operate once a week every Wednesday and is primarily designed to transport flowers and other perishable goods. With a carrying capacity of 18,000 kilograms per flight, the route could facilitate the movement of between one and two million kilograms of cargo annually. This initiative taps into Kenya’s robust flower industry, which is recognized globally as one of the top exporters of cut flowers.

Strategy

The launch of this cargo route represents a strategic step for TAAG in strengthening its intra-African logistics network. By channeling Kenyan flower exports through Luanda, the airline aims to provide a new logistical pathway for reaching European markets. This route not only supports Kenya’s export sector but also opens up business opportunities in Angola, particularly for local importers and distributors of fresh produce and flowers.

To enhance the efficiency of this route, TAAG has partnered with leading logistics companies operating in Kenya, including Aerospeed Express, Mitchell Cotts, and Tradewinds. These firms bring modern cargo handling infrastructure and expansive distribution networks at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. In addition, TAAG has organized stakeholder meetings between Kenyan exporters and potential Angolan buyers, promoting bilateral trade and encouraging participation from entrepreneurs in both countries.

Looking forward, TAAG plans to expand its cargo operations to other key African cities in 2025, including Libreville, Kinshasa, Harare, Lusaka, and Accra. These expansions reflect the airline’s broader ambition to become a central player in air cargo transport across Africa. Additionally, TAAG has entered a Special Prorate Agreement with Avianca Airlines, which will facilitate more seamless international cargo connections and further strengthen TAAG’s global freight footprint.
