Wanted: Members for National Public Transport Regulator

SA’s Department of Transport has issued a call for nominations to serve on the National Public Transport Regulator (NPTR).

Among the NPTR’s functions is the monitoring and oversight of public transport in SA in general and the activities of provincial regulatory entities and municipalities in relation to their land transport functions. Consider and make recommendations to the transport minister related to the issuing of licences for interprovincial transport services, tourist transport services and accreditation of tourist transport services. Oversight over faires charged for public transport as well as advise the minister on the making of regulations to do with fares and fare structures.

Nominees must have extensive knowledge of in the following fields:

  • Public Transport
  • Transport Economics
  • Accounting
  • Auditing
  • Law
  • Tourism Transport; and
  • Vehicle standards and specifications

Nominations must be sent to the Director General for the Department of Transport for the attention of Nomsa Mtshwene – mtshwenen@dot.gov.za

The closing date for nominations is 16 September 2025.
