New partnership aims to expand multimodal and freight services across the region

Yusen Logistics Global Management Co., Ltd. and AGL Kenya Limited have taken a significant step toward strengthening logistics capacity in East Africa with the signing of a Joint Venture Agreement in Nairobi.

The agreement brings together Yusen Logistics’ global reach and Africa Global Logistics’ deep regional expertise, reflecting growing international confidence in Africa’s logistics potential.

The joint venture builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two companies in Paris in April 2025, which set the foundation for a broader strategic partnership across the continent.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the new joint venture company is expected to be established in January and will offer a comprehensive range of logistics services, including freight forwarding, multimodal transport, contract logistics and customs brokerage.

Kenya has been identified as a strategic gateway for the partnership, serving as a hub for expanding logistics capabilities across East Africa. By leveraging Kenya’s position as a regional trade and transport centre, the Yusen Logistics Group aims to enhance connectivity between African markets and global supply chains.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to delivering world-class logistics solutions across Africa. Together with AGL, we are unlocking new opportunities and building a platform for sustainable growth,” said Hiroyuki Okamoto, President and COO, YLGM.

AGL’s established footprint across Africa is expected to play a central role in supporting the venture’s growth and operational reach.

According to Stanislas de Saint Louvent, CEO Africa Logistics and Shipping at AGL, the collaboration will enable both companies to better respond to evolving customer demands while strengthening Africa’s global trade links.

“By combining AGL’s expertise in Africa with YLGM’s global network, we can significantly develop our services to meet our customer needs. This venture represents a significant milestone in connecting Africa more seamlessly with the global economy,” he said.

Beyond expanding service offerings, the joint venture is positioned to contribute to broader economic development by supporting trade, creating business opportunities and reinforcing Africa’s role as an emerging hub in global logistics networks.
