New facility aims to strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional trade hub by providing a single gateway for local, regional and international distribution
DP World has expanded its footprint in Egypt with the opening of what it says is the country’s first fully integrated Logistics Distribution Centre (LDC), a move aimed at strengthening Egypt’s role as a regional gateway for trade between Africa, Asia and Europe.
The facility, located at Sokhna Logistics Park adjacent to Sokhna Port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, was officially inaugurated by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly alongside senior DP World executives.
The new distribution centre is intended to give manufacturers, retailers and international businesses a single logistics hub from which to store, manage and distribute goods to both the Egyptian market and export destinations across the wider region.
The investment forms part of a broader push to develop integrated logistics infrastructure around the Suez Canal, where Egypt is seeking to attract greater foreign investment and capture more value from global supply chains rather than serving solely as a transit route for cargo.
For DP World, the facility also strengthens its strategy of combining port operations with inland logistics services, allowing customers to move cargo more efficiently from ships to warehouses and onward to final markets.
Mohammad Shihab, Executive Vice President for Egypt and the Levant at DP World, said the distribution centre would enable companies to position inventory closer to customers while serving multiple markets from a single regional hub, improving both supply chain flexibility and operational efficiency.
DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said the project reflects the company’s focus on building integrated logistics ecosystems that connect ports, warehousing and supply chain services. He added that the company plans to continue investing in Egypt as it expands its regional logistics network.
Situated on one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes, the Sokhna facility is expected to support growing demand for regional distribution services as companies increasingly look to shorten supply chains and establish inventory closer to end markets.
The opening comes as Egypt continues investing heavily in transport and logistics infrastructure to strengthen its position as a regional trade and manufacturing hub, leveraging the strategic importance of the Suez Canal to attract international businesses and logistics operators.
