Maersk has launched a modern warehouse facility in Dakar, Senegal, marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen logistics infrastructure throughout West Africa.
The newly opened hub is strategically positioned within 10 kilometers of key ports, manufacturing sites, and customer markets. This close proximity enables smoother domestic distribution and supports cross-border trade with neighboring countries, enhancing supply chain efficiency for a variety of industries.
Features
The facility features 5,100 square meters of indoor space, offering 7,036 pallet positions, and an additional 500 square meters dedicated to outdoor storage. This capacity allows Maersk to manage a broad range of products, including consumer goods, retail items, lifestyle merchandise, and technology equipment. The design supports flexible and scalable warehousing solutions tailored to customer needs in a rapidly growing region.
Thomas Theeuwes, Managing Director for Maersk West Africa, highlighted the company’s long-term vision for the region. He noted that the investment demonstrates Maersk’s commitment to delivering integrated logistics solutions that help customers optimize their operations and foster growth. He also emphasized the importance of providing dependable, efficient storage options that connect seamlessly to transportation services.
With this facility, Maersk expands its footprint across West Africa, where it already operates in eight countries. The company’s regional network now includes over 100,000 square meters of logistics space in cities such as Abidjan, Tema, Douala, Lagos, Conakry, Lome, and Cotonou. The new Dakar hub is expected to play a key role in boosting economic development and overcoming logistical challenges in the region.
