SITARAIL, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics) which operates the Abidjan – Ouagadougou rail network, received at the Autonomous Port of Abidjan, four new diesel-electric locomotives of type GL30 or GT26, intended to strengthen its transport capacity and the productivity of its operations throughout the network.

These latest-generation locomotives, with a power of about 3 000 horsepower and 1 500 gross tons, will be of a major asset in improving the availability of rolling stock and the regularity of traffic on the Ouagadougou – Abidjan corridor.

With computerized control systems, on-board diagnostics and enhanced safety equipment, GL30 locomotives also help reduce maintenance costs. They also offer more ergonomic and air-conditioned cabins, significantly improving the working conditions of the driving teams.
With the arrival of these four new locomotives, SITARAIL is taking a new step in strengthening and modernizing its production tool. In terms of the impact on rail traffic, these new locomotives will allow the company to increase its service offer for particular branches and to secure their supply chains sustainably, while strengthening the responsiveness of the rail to seasonal peaks of activity, contributing to the preservation of the road network and the reduction of its Carbon footprint.

“This new investment, in addition to a recent acquisition of 260 tray cars, 40 of which have been in service since the end of November, reflects the commitment of SITARAIL and the AGL group to work alongside the States of Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso for the development, modernization and sustainability of the network, as well as the strengthening of its socio-economic impact for our populations,” says Simplicite Essoh, CEO of Sitarail.
