Go George partners with government to remove transport barriers and improve access to employment opportunities for unemployed South Africans
In an effort to reduce transport barriers for unemployed South Africans, Western Cape public bus operator Go George has partnered with the provincial government to launch the Getting YOU to Work Programme, a travel voucher initiative that provides free bus travel for eligible jobseekers.
The programme is designed to support unemployed commuters by enabling them to travel free of charge while seeking employment, attending interviews or accessing work-related opportunities.
Available from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 15:00, the Getting YOU to Work Programme is open to unemployed South Africans who have registered on the programme’s online portal.
By easing the financial burden of transport costs, the initiative aims to improve access to employment opportunities and increase labour market participation, particularly for individuals who may otherwise struggle to attend interviews or explore job prospects.
Eligible applicants can register online through the Getting YOU to Work portal at gettingyoutowork.westerncape.gov.za to access the travel vouchers.
The initiative highlights the growing role of public transport operators in supporting inclusive economic development by improving mobility and connecting jobseekers with employment opportunities.
