Discussions focused on port infrastructure, investment and security, with both parties seeking to strengthen Douala-Bonabéri’s role as a gateway to Cameroon and Central Africa
The Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Véronika Bosković Pohar, visited the Port of Douala on Wednesday, October 21.
She was welcomed by Charles Michaux Moukoko Njoh, Deputy General Manager of the Port Authority of Douala (PAD), on behalf of the General Manager, Cyrus Ngo’o, who is currently on a mission in Burkina Faso.
The meeting focused on modernising port infrastructure, attracting investment and enhancing port security, with a view to developing partnerships with European ports.
One of the key points of discussion was the Port of Douala-Bonabéri’s vital role in Cameroon’s economy and in supplying landlocked countries, particularly Chad and the Central African Republic.
The PAD outlined its development priorities, while the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, investment and mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly through the SCOPE Africa programme and its Global Gateway investment strategy.
“Our ambition is to build a high-performing port, logistics and industrial hub that creates value and jobs while supporting Cameroon’s development and strengthening its regional influence,” said the PAD’s Deputy General Manager.
The meeting highlighted how both parties are commitment to translating discussions into tangible outcomes, with a focus on advancing port modernisation and expanding opportunities for cooperation. These efforts are expected to reinforce the Port of Douala-Bonabéri’s position as a strategic gateway serving Cameroon and the wider Central African region.
