Maersk Training will enter a new phase under Open Gate Capital as the logistics group sharpens its focus on its core shipping and logistics operations
Shipping and logistics group Maersk has agreed to sell its training business, Maersk Training, and subsidiary Maersk H2S Safety Services to US-based investment firm Open Gate Capital.
The transaction is part of Maersk’s continued focus on its core shipping and logistics operations, while Maersk Training will move into new ownership focused on training, safety and workforce competency solutions.
The deal is still subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Maersk Training has operated for more than 40 years, providing training and competency solutions to industries including energy, maritime, renewables and logistics. Its services are aimed at helping companies manage operational risks, improve workforce safety and build the skills needed in high-risk operating environments.
Katharina Poehlmann, Head of Strategy at A.P. Moller – Maersk and Chairwoman of Maersk Training, said the business had developed a strong position in the market and that the transaction would give it room to pursue further growth.
“Maersk Training has built a strong business with highly skilled colleagues, trusted customer relationships and a solid foundation for future growth. We believe this transaction will enable Maersk Training to continue developing under an owner with training, safety and competency solutions as a key focus area, creating new opportunities for customers, employees and the business alike,” said Poehlmann.
The sale will also include Maersk H2S Safety Services, which provides specialist safety training and services, particularly for industries where workers face exposure to hydrogen sulphide and other operational hazards.
For Maersk Training, the change in ownership marks a new chapter for a business that has operated under the Maersk name for more than four decades.
David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training, said the company would continue serving customers and supporting employees while the transaction works its way towards completion.
“This is an important milestone for Maersk Training. The agreement recognises the strong business we have built together over the past 40+ years. While many of us are proud of our Maersk heritage, we are equally excited about the opportunities this next chapter brings under an owner that has experience in unlocking long-term value and will enable our strategic focus. Until the transaction closes, our focus remains unchanged: serving our customers, supporting one another and delivering on our commitments and ambitions,” said Skov.
The transaction is expected to allow Maersk Training to pursue its growth strategy as an independent business, while Open Gate Capital brings its experience in corporate carve-outs and industrial businesses to the company.
Maersk said further details on the transaction will be provided once the deal has received the necessary approvals and closed.
