Passenger and freight operations halted until June 26 as railway authorities undertake infrastructure upgrades to improve safety and operational efficiency
Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM) has announced the temporary suspension of all passenger and freight train services operating on the Goba Line as part of planned regional railway maintenance works.
The suspension took effect on June 17 and will remain in place until June 26.
CFM said the disruption is necessary to facilitate maintenance activities under a regional railway infrastructure plan involving Southern Mozambique, South Africa and Eswatini.
Despite the closure of the Goba Line, operations on the Ressano Garcia Line will continue during the maintenance period, albeit under restricted conditions.
According to CFM-South’s Executive Management, the decision was taken in compliance with the regional maintenance programme covering the railway networks of the three neighbouring countries.
The company noted that the maintenance works are aimed at improving the safety, reliability and overall comfort of train operations.
CFM has advised passengers and freight customers to note the temporary changes and plan accordingly while the upgrades are underway.
