The new platform allows passengers to check routes and schedules, plan journeys and load SmartTap tickets online

South African bus service, Putco, has launched a new mobile application designed to give passengers easier access to public transport information and ticketing services.

The app allows commuters to plan their journeys, check bus routes and schedules, view fares and receive service alerts. Passengers can also use the platform to load and manage SmartTap tickets online.

The launch forms part of Putco’s efforts to bring greater convenience and digital services to its commuter network, particularly for passengers who rely on scheduled bus services for their daily travel.

By bringing journey planning and ticket management onto a single mobile platform, commuters can access key travel information before leaving home and manage their tickets without relying solely on physical outlets.

The app also provides information on Putco stops and routes, helping passengers identify available services when planning their trips.

Putco operates commuter bus services across several provinces, including Gauteng and Mpumalanga, connecting communities to work and other destinations.

The move reflects the growing role of digital technology in public transport, where real-time information and electronic ticketing can improve the passenger experience while supporting more efficient interactions between operators and commuters.

The Putco app is available for download on Android and iOS devices.
